I think that "guilt" is the downfall of many a person in relationship to a sound healthy eating plan. Many who embark on an eating plan at some point make the choice to eat something they had not planned on eating. Some like myself, plan way in advance, and usually do so to enjoy a special day, or a special event.
So if you have made the choice to eat off plan the important thing is to move forward and not dwell on the decision. It is definately a "mindset". The usual scenerio for me was if I "cheated" at a meal I would give myself permission to continue to cheat cuz I already "blew" the day. More often than not that cheat would end up triggering eating in a non healthy way. First it would be the cheat, then the next meal, then it would be oh hell might as well eat anything I want today. The next day would arrive and I would continue to not be disciplined and that day would follow the next and before I knew it my healthy eating plan would turn into my old ways and the weight would slowly creep on.
This time I decided that there would be days that I would eat off plan and that it was my choice, I would enjoy the "hiatus"(decided not to call it cheating..has too many negative connotations and anyhow it was not a spontaneous decision but rather a well thought out choice). So after the planned hiatus was over, I have gone right back to the healthy way of eating and most importantly I was ready to do so mentally, I was prepared and made sure I had the right food available to me.
Maybe if I had never decided to take a day off here and there I may have lost more weight in the last six months, but is this a race? No, it is reality, it is what works for me. I am an adult who has made an adult decision and then moved on guilt free.... I control food it no longer controls me.
